Hello
Welcome & thank you for reading about my practice. I’m Alaina Brocklesby, a registered social worker who specializes in providing psychotherapy to current and former military members, couples and individuals involved in the legal system. Using a blend of therapeutic modalities, my direct approach assists clients in achieving direction, exploring challenges and developing practical strategies for growth.
My Story
After completing my undergraduate degree in Psychology, I continued my education, earning a Master of Social Work, specializing in mental health. This education has provided a strong foundation supporting individuals in their mental wellness. I have continued to expand my toolkit with formalized training in CBT, MI, and EMDR to provide my clients with effective, evidence-based support. I seek out regular clinical supervision to ensure that I continuously learn and improve my skills.
I have extensive experience supporting individuals through difficult times, through my work with Victim Services, Crisis Line and Legal Aid. Relationships are a cornerstone of my practice, and I believe that openness and honesty will facilitate greater change in the therapeutic setting. Outside of my psychotherapy practice, I enjoy adventuring in the outdoors, spending time with my kids and family.
My Practice
In my practice, you will experience a compassionate space where you will bolster your inner strength and learn new skills, so you can create the life you want to live. Through psychoeducation, you build greater self-awareness to implement effective life strategies.
Some of the modalities you may encounter include Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) to explore your values and how these can provide direction; Dialectic Behaviour therapy (DBT) to develop skills to understand your emotions and their role in life decisions; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to understand the linkages between thoughts, emotions and behaviours; Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to address trauma; and Direct Neurofeedback (DNF) as an adjunct to help reach therapeutic goals.
I work with individuals and couples to navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, substance misuse, difficulties with personality, grief, life transitions, relationship issues, self-esteem, chronic pain and trauma. My part-time psychotherapy practice allows me to achieve balance between other personal and work commitments. To see how we might work together, I offer a 15 minute no-charge, no-obligation consultation. I hope this provides some ease as you navigate your search for support.
